will this be the user interface for your new on-board-pc?

It looks very nice. I guess you will use this with a touch screen.
How long will it take to produce the first prototypes? Or even the final version?
You know I'm very interrested in such a system.

This should be the final interface. The whole system is running fine in it's prototype version, now it remains me to buy such sbc board, nice boxing i suppose something in aluminium and of course a touch screen.
The different meters can be changed just by touching them.
They are too many things that could be displayed so in the end the car owner will chose what he or she wants to be displayed. They are 10 channels that can handle fast data acquisition with a maximum of 5 Khz / each (5000 measures per second).
OBD and OBDII can't deal with so high frequencies .

Data can be recorded with all channels to be displayed at home in excel or any database using a usb key to save informations.
The wi-fi could be nice but not all people have house with own garage, so in the underground garages the wi-fi wouldn't work.



In addition it could be added a high end mini touch display in addition to the main 7 " display. A kind of small 128 x 64 graphic LCD that can be used as remote on driver or passengers side.

Absolutely great! This would be a nice gadget for all freaks who like all-in-one-solutions.

Some questions from me:

- When you produce it (or a company), what will be the final price for the consumer?
- How will be the handling about uploading data (for example mp3-files)? You said something about an USB interface...
- How difficult would be the installation in a normal car? I ask because I'm not a specialist for car electronics

I wish you much success with this project an hope that some day one of this nice units is working in my own porsche

- The final price should be subject to variations depending of what the final customer wish as elements aboard because they are few more things which it will be possible to add but the basic price will be around 1400-1600 €.

- Media handling is wide opened, it supports cd or dvd but can still be uploaded with usb key, it could be in optionnal decision to be uploaded using Wi-Fi features.

- Installation at least for the launching of the company will be done by myself or a really trained technician.
They are few points for this.
- First it's a matter of doing things as they should, good insulation combined with high electrical reliability.

- Second thing is that for a new company i have to bring a good image of it, so i can't stand a poor or bad installations.

- Third is simply the quality level, by taking time to make the installation, the customer can only be happy that someone cares about it's installation. Finally the customer have just to turn the key and make this creature alive.

To finish with those points, i prefer to not let the customers mess with it at least for the security features (car-jacking counter measures). So if the customer don't know/cares about where is the system it's better for everyone except thieves

Success, well, i'm really afraid and i still don't know today if i should or not launch a company with this. It's really scary .

all your answers sound very good. I think you should try to lauch a company because i guess that this will be one of the first all-in-one solutions (entertainment, security, control management of car electronics, ...).

One problem I see is that you must know every car and its electronic if you do the installation by your own (or is this system only for a special type like porsche? ).

Price, I think, is fair, if the components and special options aren't much more than 100 - 200 Euros for one. Okay, I know, that specials like a navigation system are more expensive, but this option I don't mean.

Okay, if you start with a production of your 'magic gadget' , open a new threat on this board. I think there would be some persons that are interested in buying one.

Well you are right, the electronics of a car may vary but there's one thing which is a constant fortunately, the e.c.u. remains of the same brand. So for example if you take motronic from one Porsche and you compare it to Bmw or Saab the hardware is the same, only the programs are different from one make to other. This allows me to be able to offer this system to the cars using the Bosch's technology.
They are many makes / models using Bosch electronics DFI.

- Audi
- Bmw
- Lada
- Peugeot
- Porsche
- Saab
- Skoda
- Volkswagen
- Volvo
and others i forgot

The options should be under those prices.
The heaviest is that i have to deal with the huge basis price that i can't lower just because of the basic hardware involved. System is modular that's true but i can't separate things to have only mp3 player. Well in a technical way it's possible but i don't know anybody who would buy such a player for 1600 €

So the idea is to offer more than people expect to reduce virtually the price by offering more features than concurrents. It's real pain this price because it's not the best to start, i mean having expensive things to sell.

Today added one nice blue OSD in addition with a discreet sound to confirm the button has been touched.

The picture is bad quality because i tried to save some hard disk space.

It's a nice setup you showed with the link but they are few points i will never apply for mine.

The display shows too much things, it could be confusing. Question is then who drive the car when you seek some music, or whatever ?
In my point of view it must be simple as a radio,it's a matter of safety for the driver.

Second, no hardware in the glove box !
Hardware should be in the rear trunk and many other things that makes that what i made is not really related to this kind of systems which remains too much fragile with sensitivity to power failures, temperature excess, too long boot (between 45s - 1mn) etc.

You may find same kind of things here http://www.carmedia.org/ but everyone is still making more or less the same thing mp3/dvd/gps/camera nothing more no tracking, no remote neutralization, no monitoring, no datalogging
